We are located in a perfect spot, on a slope by the end of the road, between Salmivaara and Ala-Kilpisjärvi – here, nature unfolds at your doorstep and offers stunning views all year round. But Kalamaja is much more than just scenery – it’s an experience in itself.

As you step into the cottage, you’ll feel warmth around you, as the heart of Kalamaja beats with geothermal energy and the ambiance of a Tiileri stove. The kitchen is carefully designed and crafted by a local carpenter, so you can enjoy your meals amidst the beauty of the surrounding nature. The cottage’s two bedrooms provide comfortable nights in the main building. Additionally, there is a one-person sleeping alcove in the main cabin which has sliding doors providing privacy. Another bedroom is located in the annex, connected to the main cabin by a terrace – a perfect place to enjoy peace and quiet.

Kalamaja was designed by architect Teemu Hirvilampi, who respected Scandinavian wood construction in every detail. Our cottage features unique elements, such as a vast wilderness library and a Japanese washing area, inviting you to relax and enjoy the moment. All choices have been made with consideration for natural materials and ecological sustainability, and you’ll find both Finnish design and local art that tells the story of the area’s culture and history.
